Mike Murtland

Originally from Southeast Michigan, Mike now lives in Southwest Ohio. His pursuit of whitetails began at age six with a trip to Texas, toting a custom compact .243 rifle and tagging a pair of 8-points on Christmas day. His passion for the outdoors continued to grow and as soon as he could climb a tree he began joining his father in the whitetail woods of Michigan bow hunting public land. “Although the bucks we hunted were not often very big, I learned many lessons about whitetails and hunting high-pressured deer.”

Mike graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Construction Management. He has experience as a Project Engineer for a large general contractor and is also a skilled finish carpenter. When his daughter was born, he relocated to the Cincinnati area and became a Realtor. Since then his real estate business has blossomed and he has found his niche selling farms, homes and recreational property.

As a Land Specialist and serious whitetail hunter, Mike has exceptional knowledge of land, crops, woods and water, and the wildlife that inhabit these places; not to mention his understanding of the habitat that is necessary to grow and hold trophy deer. Mike knows that not all hunting land is created equal and when it comes to improving big buck habitat by planting and cutting, he is full of creative ideas. “In my mind, nothing is better than improving habitat, growing quality deer and strategically hunting a property to harvest them.”

In 2010 everything came together early in the season for Mike. While hunting from the ground high atop a huge hardwood point in the state forest the buck of his dreams, that he and friend jumped late the previous season, appeared in the same spot at a mere 15 yards. He was fortunate enough to make a perfect shot on the old ridge runner who taped out over 172” as a 13-point.

2011 was a good year for Mike.  He sold a lot of property, spent a lot of time in the woods and managed to tag a pair of bucks.  Some of the highlights were a huge Ohio twelve that just would not get within bow range, a big heavy 10 he helped a friend tag on opening day of Ohio Shotgun in the pouring rain, stalking and killing a nice Ohio eight-point in the State Forest with a long shot, as well as getting lucky in Kentucky on a big woods Daniel Boone Forest ten-point.  It was November 13th opening weekend of KY Rifle and it was his first time hunting the Boone.  The plan was to cover ground and locate deer.  As he approached a big ridge top deep in the forest he caught a glimpse of a heavy-horned buck on his feet and on the prowl.  When the buck presented a shot at a mere 30 yards Mike took it, only to miss by hitting a big blow-down.  Just as the buck was about to clear the top of the ridge on a dead run, Mike took his time and touched off the shot that connected.

With 22 years of hunting experience, his knowledge of the Real Estate industry and the trophy whitetail potential that Ohio has to offer, Mike is perfectly positioned to help both buyers and sellers turn their dreams into reality.
