33.1 acres CRP produces $2348/year and is enrolled through 2017.
The CRP is planted in warm season grasses (switchgrass, big bluestem, indiangrass, etc.) and provides outstanding cover and bedding habitat for whitetails.
15 acres of shelterbelt (planting of shrub, conifer, and hardwood trees) is 15 years old and completely screens the farm from the road and from neighbors.
10 acres of Hardwood tree plantings that included many varieties of hybrid oaks, sawtooth oaks and dwarf chinkapin oaks. Many of these oaks are 10-12 years old and producing acorns already.
Approximately 5-6 acres of established food plots. These food plots are in great shape and have been through a crop rotation of cereal grains, brassicas, and clovers. This insures that the deer have a year round food source on the property. There is also a high quality scentless enclosed blind located on the food plot for late season hunting.
Apple and persimmon trees have been planted and individually fenced for protection.
TSI (Timber Stand Improvement) has been done on the entire timber which has improved the wildlife habitat and will increase future timber value.
Hinge cutting has also been performed in many areas to increase understory and bedding areas.
Several natural funnels have been enhanced with hinge cutting to bring deer to within 20 – 25 yards and have created some slam dunk bow hunting locations.
