Description
This large wildlife sanctuary consists of nineteen year old, regenerating wetland habitat situated along southeast Iowa's Des Moines River. In 2003, this farmland was enrolled into the Emergency Watershed Protection - Floodplain conservation easement. A combination of bottomland timber and wetland vegetation was planted across the farm, transforming this property into a vast cover block that now holds various wildlife species! Whitetail deer, turkey, waterfowl, predators, songbirds, and the small game now call this property home. There are approximately 210 acres of true land mass.
Drive through the gated entrance, and you'll drop down the hill across the old Des Moines River channel, which was altered in 1946 to redirect the river's course. This area now serves as a low-lying slough that provides a great water source for the neighboring wildlife. There are several established trails for accessing the property and two Muddy tower blinds overlooking open pockets.
Several deer were seen while photographing this property, and there are trail camera images from bucks that were captured this winter. This wetland habitat is attractive to deer because it provides secure bedding, fawning cover, and native browse. Setting up for movement between the farm's timber and the adjacent crop field to the west will undoubtedly offer you successful hunts! If you monitor this property correctly with trail cameras and hunt smart, you'll have a good chance of encountering a target buck. The waterfowl hunting should also be action-packed in the fall, thanks to several pockets of water throughout the property. Call the listing agent for more information.
