Description
The Morgan Ranch is an expansive 5,132+/- deeded and fully fenced acres in Eastern Oregon where the historic Pillars of Rome line the Alfalfa fields, making for one of the most beautiful backdrops of any ranch in the region. Crooked Creek snakes through the irrigated fields and, via five pivots and several wheel lines, waters 200+/- acres of alfalfa, which turns out about 1,300 tons annually. Crooked Creek does not freeze up in the winter and seems to grow stronger as it crosses the property before falling off a small waterfall just north of the ranch.
Rome, Oregon’s cold desert climate makes for dry, mild winters, together with its ample hay production and size make for perfect winter grazing and supplemental hay. The Pillars of Rome, named for their resemblance to Roman ruins, have become a popular tourist attraction for their uniqueness and beauty; they line the eastern edge of the property, creating some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets as the light reflects differently every time. The remaining fully fenced acreage of rolling hills, flat tops, and canyon cuts sit on either side of Highway 95, making for easy access and providing multiple grazing options.
Mule deer frequent this oasis in the desert, and multiple species of waterfowl enjoy the stock pond and creek. Landowner Preference tags for Mule Deer and Antlerless Elk are available in Units Owyhee 67 and Whitehorse 68. Two homes on the west edge of the Alfalfa fields have historically been home to the ranch’s caretakers. Cattle working facilities, shops, and hay storage are opposite the home and are set up to handle daily operations efficiently.
