A lifelong resident of Opelousas, Dave Fisher, has built his life around a deep connection to the land. Growing up in the heart of south Louisiana, Dave developed an early appreciation for the outdoors that would ultimately shape both his personal passions and his professional career. From the cypress-lined waterways of the Atchafalaya Basin to the marshes and shorelines of the Gulf Coast, Dave spent countless hours exploring some of the most unique and productive ecosystems in the country. These formative experiences instilled in him not only a love for the outdoors, but also a deep respect for the importance of conservation, stewardship, and responsible land use.
Dave’s lifelong passion for the outdoors naturally led him into a career dedicated to preserving and managing Louisiana’s natural resources. He began his professional journey with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, where he gained hands-on experience working with wildlife habitats, fisheries, and land management practices. During this time, Dave had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most knowledgeable top biologists and conservation professionals in the state, learning firsthand the science and strategy behind maintaining healthy ecosystems. His work provided him with a strong foundation in habitat development, wildlife population management, and sustainable land practices—skills that continue to serve him and his clients today.
Following his tenure with the state, Dave went on to serve as a Park Ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he spent years working within the Atchafalaya Basin. In this role, he was responsible for managing public lands, assisting visitors, and ensuring the protection of one of the largest river swamp systems in North America. His time as a ranger further deepened his understanding of land use, conservation, and the balance between recreation and preservation. Whether patrolling waterways, maintaining access points, or educating the public, Dave developed a well-rounded perspective on how people interact with land—and how to manage it for long-term sustainability.
With more than 35 years of experience in land, wildlife, and timber management, Dave has cultivated a level of expertise that few can match. His background includes working closely with foresters, wildlife biologists, and landowners to improve property value and habitat quality. From timber thinning and habitat restoration to creating food plots and managing water resources, Dave understands what it takes to turn a piece of property into a thriving, productive environment. This knowledge is especially valuable for clients interested in farm ground, hunting land, and recreational property, where proper management can significantly enhance both enjoyment and long-term investment potential.
Today, Dave brings that same passion and expertise into his role as a licensed real estate agent with Whitetail Properties. Specializing in farm ground, hunting land, and recreational property, he is dedicated to helping clients find land that aligns with their lifestyle, goals, and vision. Dave understands that purchasing land is more than just a transaction—it’s a deeply personal investment in a way of life. Whether a client is searching for a secluded hunting retreat, income-producing farmland, or a waterfront recreational property, Dave works tirelessly to ensure they find the right fit.
