With a huge glass window facing the intersection of Main and Third, this space catches the eye of all passersby coming through town in a vehicle or on foot. The downtown area is currently transforming and has become a destination place for all the new residents in Eastern Wake County. Walk out the door and visit one of the new restaurants, coffee shops, and stores that have all recently moved into downtown Wendell. With being in the heart of Wendell, you are right in the middle of all the festivals and other events such as the Harvest Festival, which is going on its 93rd year, the International Food Festival held by St. Eugene’s Catholic church, “Meet on Main” events, the Wendell Farmer’s Market, Wendell Wonderland in December and let’s not forget Lake Myra Christmas Light Show which is one block away. This town lives up to its slogan of “Small Town. Big Charm.”
“The building was probably constructed in the 1920s. Originally it served as the drugstore of W.R. Nowell had a dentist’s office upstairs. Notable characteristics include the round-arched window and door openings and the entrance set in the cutaway corner with mouse tooth trim. “Nowell’s Drug Store was owned and operated by William Robert Nowell and his son William Jr. beginning about 1915. It was located on South Main Street in downtown Wendell, North Carolina. The six-bay front facade faced the Third and Main Street intersection. The store was a local landmark as one of the town’s early drugstores and the building also housed a dental office, a physician’s office, and had a beauty parlor upstairs. The building has been home to the drug store, dentist, physician, beauty salon, massage office, restaurant by Pete Buffaloe, Gold Leaf Farmer newspaper, then the Wendell Clarion, real estate office, and now we can’t wait to see what you can do with that space.
This space currently offers a main floor that is ready to use now with a bathroom, an upstairs area with its own streetside entrance that will need some major repairs and then a smaller space in the rear of the building with its own streetside entrance and bathroom. The smaller space in the back has been used as a massage therapist’s office for the last few years. The uses and opportunities within this building are endless and amazing! Call us today!
